Hartford Hospital Emergency Department Receives Prestigious National Nursing Award
July 23, 2024
The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) announced that Hartford Hospital’s Emergency Department is a recipient of the 2024 Lantern Award for exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of nursing leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.
Through the application process for this award, emergency departments share stories highlighting their commitment to care and the initiatives to improve nursing staff’s well-being. Hartford Hospital stood out for its exemplary efforts in several key areas, including the Emergency Department Professional Nursing Council, a successful nurse mentoring program, the implementation of dynamic staffing models, and a steadfast commitment to staff engagement and well-being.
In addition, Hartford Hospital excelled in the innovation and efficiency category. Its Operational Optimization work, a joint effort by leadership and colleagues to re-evaluate departmental workflows to improve efficiency and patient experience, led to improved throughput metrics despite record patient volumes.
“Our Emergency Department’s success is a testament to the hard work, dedication and collaborative spirit of our entire team,” said Cheryl Ficara, RN, president of Hartford Hospital and senior vice president of Hartford HealthCare. “This prestigious award reflects our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional patient care while continuously improving our practices and supporting our colleagues. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful for this recognition.”
Applications are reviewed and scored by the ENA Lantern Award Committee. The award lasts for a three-year cycle, after which emergency departments are eligible to apply again.
