The objective of the Community Benefit program at Hartford HealthCare and Hartford Hospital is to ensure a strategic approach to community benefit planning, implementation and evaluation through system-wide oversight and guidance in assessing community health needs to improve the health of the individuals and communities it serves and to enhance health access regardless of ability to pay.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”), sets forth requirements via the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(r) for hospital organizations to conduct a periodic assessment of health needs of those living in their service area.
