Art for Healing Program
Lauren Ciborowski, Coordinator
Lauren is the Program Coordinator of the Art for Healing Program within the Integrative Medicine Department. She received her Bachelors of Science from Springfield College class of 2016, earning a degree in Art Therapy and Psychology. After serving as the Head Intern and an Art Therapy Facilitator for two years, she was offered the role of Program Coordinator upon Samantha Cronin, the previous coordinator who worked as her supervisor and mentor.
Lauren oversees several Expressive Arts Facilitators, who implement community arts workshops such as Zentangle, Singing Bowls Mediations, Expressive Painting, and many more. Sponsored by the Zoe Foundation, these classes are offered to cancer “thrivers”, survivors, and caretakers, completely free of charge.
Utilizing a holistic approach to art therapy, she facilitates monthly art therapy support groups at Backus Hospital and other Harford Healthcare satellite locations. In her experiences with art and art therapy, Lauren frequently incorporates nature into her work, using found objects as stimulus for collage, sculpture, mobiles, and other directives.
Lauren also trains expressive arts students and volunteers on the hospital floors and Co-coordinates the Creativity Coach Volunteer Program with Eileen Pelletier of Volunteer Services. The Creativity Coaches provide free one-on-one art therapy sessions for inpatients in Oncology, Rehab, Cancer Center, Dialysis, and other areas of the hospital.
