The Program
Treating Stroke at Hartford Hospital
On average, someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds, according to data from the American Heart Association. Each year, about 800,000 Americans experience a new or recurrent stroke. Each year, about 55,000 more women than men have strokes. African Americans have almost twice the risk of first-ever stroke compared with whites. And strokes accounted for 1 out of 20 deaths in the U.S. in 2011 (American Heart Association, Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics—2015 Update).
Since 2001, Hartford Hospital has provided a state-of-the-art stroke team and facility to treat stroke promptly and effectively.
