Denise D’Ascenzo Foundation Makes Donation to Hartford Hospital COVID-19 Response Fund

May 05, 2020

Denise D’Ascenzo, former anchor at WFSB, Channel 3, was a part of the Hartford Hospital family, spending countless hours here, passionately sharing the stories of patients and life-saving medical breakthroughs.

Her sudden passing left staff members heartbroken and grieving her loss. Today, Denise’s legacy continues to impact the lives of those who work at Hartford Hospital.

On behalf of the Denise D’Ascenzo Foundation, created soon after her death, Denise’s longtime co-anchor and close friend, Dennis House, presented a $5,000 check to the Hartford Hospital COVID-19 Response Fund.

This marks the first donation by the foundation, says House. He says he believes Denise had a hand in the decision to contribute to the hospital’s fund.

“Denise really guided us to make this donation,” he says. “She was a big supporter of nurses and healthcare workers. If she were covering this story, she’d be asking of the details in people’s lives that not everyone thinks about.”

The donation will be used to fund the purchase of scrubs for nurses who are working on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

House says he’s confident D’Ascenzo would approve of the donation, noting she had spoken of creating a foundation later on in life, as the two of them pondered future plans after broadcasting.

“I think she would be very proud,” he says.
