Hartford Hospital and two Hartford HealthCare joint venture surgery centers received the highest honors for quality and safety from the Leapfrog Group.

For the second year in a row, Hartford Hospital was named a Top Teaching Hospital — the only hospital in the state to receive this designation.

In addition, two Hartford HealthCare ambulatory surgery joint ventures, Hartford Surgery Center and Glastonbury Surgery Center, were awarded Leapfrog’s Top Ambulatory Surgery Center Award—two of only three to be recognized in Connecticut and among only 13 nationally. The award is based on excellence in upholding quality standards across several areas of patient care. This includes staffing, hand hygiene, infection rates, practices for safer surgery, and error prevention.

“We are honored to once again be recognized by Leapfrog. This award is a testament to our team’s steadfast commitment to delivering the safest and highest quality care. It is also an acknowledgement of our colleagues’ skill and dedication in training our next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Hartford Hospital President Bimal Patel.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank highest among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses the quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance, including practices for safe surgery and preventing patient risks.

More than 2,200 hospitals nationwide were considered for a Top Hospital award, which recognized hospitals in four categories: children’s, general, rural and teaching. A total of 115 hospitals were selected as Top Hospitals, including 58 Top Teaching Hospitals.
