When Speed and Skill Mean Everything
The Emergency Department (ED) at Hartford Hospital (HH) treats over 100,000 adult patients per year with conditions ranging from major trauma, heart attacks and stroke to more minor illness.
Patients come to us by all means of transportation ranging from their own automobiles to ambulances, including Hartford Hospital’s LIFE STAR helicopter. We admit over 20,000 patients to the hospital. We are accredited as a Level I Trauma Center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Comprehensive Cardiac Center. We are the recipients of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) 2024 Lantern Award for exceptional practice and innovative performance in the core areas of nursing leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. We are the main clinical site of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine’s Emergency Medicine Residency and are active in the training of Advanced Practice Providers and Registered Nurses.
After triage by a registered nurse patients are cared for by emergency nurses, patient care assistants, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and emergency physicians.
