What is Acupuncture?
The process of applying needles to the various acupuncture points on the body stimulates the nervous system to release specific chemicals in the brain. It can also strengthen the immune system and increase both the function and quality of people’s lives.

  • Available hospital-wide to patients
  • Physician's order is necessary
  • Payment due at time of service - $80 per session
  • Patients: To request a session, please notify your nurse or caregiver or Integrative Medicine at 860.972.4444.

The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities and promotes physical and emotional well being.

Benefits

What are the benefits?
The goal of acupuncture is to create harmony within the body by restoring the flow of Qi, the life force in all body functions. If disease occurs when the circulation of Qi is halted, whether by injuries, stress, heat, cold, or other influences, by redirecting the flow of Qi, acupuncture can help cure disease, prevent illness, restore harmony, and provide comfort.

What is experienced?

  • The needles used by an acupuncturist are very thin (some as slender as the diameter of a human hair) and the points of the needles are smooth, not sharp. Insertion by an experienced acupuncturist usually results in little or no discomfort.
  • While the needles are in the body patients may feel completely relaxed, fall asleep, or feel energized. They may feel sensations of energy traveling through their body, a feeling of heaviness at the needle site, or they may feel nothing at all.
  • Following the treatment many patients feel very relaxed, and rejuvenated and pain is diminished or relieved. The length of relief varies in each case from a few hours to a few days, or complete resolution of pain.
