Rehabilitation Medicine: Nonsurgical Treatments to Restore Function
Rehabilitation medicine physicians, APRN’s and PA’s are experts in value-based evaluation, diagnosis, and management of neuro musculoskeletal and disabling conditions. The treatments we provide are vital in optimizing the most positive outcomes for patients in the early stages of their diagnosis and throughout the continuum of care.
Our board-certified rehabilitation medicine specialists diagnose and treat painful spinal conditions in a conservative, nonoperative fashion, with minimal use of narcotics. Our specialists are board-certified in pain management and electrodiagnostic medicine. We coordinate care closely with the other specialists at the Bone & Joint Institute to help you regain as much function as possible while keeping pain to a minimum.
Pain Management Expertise with Spinal Procedures
We have specialized expertise in performing the most advanced, fluoroscopically guided, minimally invasive spinal procedures. These include epidural steroid injections, medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablations that relieve pain for issues like herniated disks, spinal stenosis, nerve root injury (radiculopathy) and facet joint pain.
We do these procedures in a specialized surgical setting with the most carefully controlled conditions. This level of closely coordinated care and close monitoring reduces the risk of complications and ensures the best possible outcomes.
In addition to assessing nonsurgical spinal conditions, we also guide physical therapies to help you return to your normal activities as quickly and safely as possible.
Managing Spinal Conditions
The vast majority of back problems can be managed without surgery. We focus on making the appropriate diagnosis through detailed physical examination, supported by the highest quality imaging possible. Your treatment may include non-opioid medication management and spinal injections for pain relief. These can help you transition into physical therapy as well as move you toward longer-term improved function. We design rehabilitation programs for you to follow within our extensive network of physical therapists.
In cases where conservative physical medicine and rehabilitation approaches can’t solve your orthopedic problem, surgery may be indicated. We coordinate closely with the orthopedic surgeons of the Bone & Joint Institute to find the best solutions to restore function. This includes performing electrodiagnostic testing (EMGs) to determine the extent of any nerve damage that could be best relieved through surgical interventions.
