Back to Normal Faster: Robotic Hysterectomy
Gynecologic oncologist Amy K. Brown, MD, MPH, Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology, is one of few physicians in the country with extensive experience in using robotics to perform hysterectomies for patients with gynecologic cancer and certain benign conditions.
Patients with endometrial, cervical, and early ovarian cancer are candidates for robotic hysterectomy with or without lymph node removal.
“The benefit to the patient is recovery time,” Dr. Brown says. “Patients need only two to four weeks of recovery at home, instead of six to eight.” This quicker recovery allows both for faster return to normal activities, and for those patients requiring chemotherapy or radiation they can begin these important treatments sooner after surgery.
