About the Program
The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program is based at Hartford Hospital and its surrounding offsite locations. Residents will complete rotations in geriatrics, transitions of care, cardiology, anticoagulation, endocrinology, primary care, and pharmacy leadership and management. The resident will also complete a research project, create and present an ACPE accredited continuing education program, and lead monthly lunch and learn topic discussions. The resident will have the opportunity to complete a number of elective experiences in our growing ambulatory care pharmacy department in addition to other areas at Hartford HealthCare locations.
Residency Program Purpose
PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Email: Emily.Scurka@hhchealth.org
Hometown: Billerica, MA
School of Pharmacy: Western New England University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Professional Interests: Primary Care, Endocrinology, and Pain Management
Post PGY2 Plans: To practice as an ambulatory care pharmacist at an academic institution in the primary care or endocrinology space. Having the opportunity to precept pharmacy students and residents would be ideal, as I have had an excellent experience co-precepting pharmacy students over this past year as a PGY1.
What attracted you to Hartford Hospital? When searching for a PGY1 program, I was really impressed and interested in the variety of rotations that Hartford Hospital was able to provide. I was excited about some of the more unique rotations that I may have otherwise never had the opportunity to experience. Additionally, this program offered a PGY2 in ambulatory care, and the idea of possibly being able to complete a PGY2 within the system where I complete my PGY1 was something that was also very attractive to me. The experiences throughout my first year have made me a proficient clinical pharmacist and provided a solid foundation to transition into the PGY2 ambulatory care role here.
What do you do in your free time? I like to work out (I recently got into running), go on hikes with my dog Teddy, go to spin class, go to the beach, listen to Dan and Shay, and try new restaurants.
What do you love most about Connecticut? I love all of the hiking trails, restaurants, breweries, and wineries that Connecticut has to offer. I also really like being located right in the middle of Boston and New York City.
