PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency

We’re thrilled to announce the recruitment for our first-ever PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Resident for the 2025-2026 residency year!

About the Program

The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Program at Hartford Hospital provides an immersive and comprehensive experience designed to develop advanced clinical skills in oncology pharmacy practice. Based at Hartford Hospital and its affiliated offsite locations, this program offers a diverse array of learning experiences across inpatient, outpatient, investigational, and specialty pharmacy settings, ensuring a well-rounded education that aligns with the program's purpose.

Residents will engage in various patient care activities, where they will refine their expertise in oncology pharmacy through hands-on experience and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The program’s structured learning experiences are tailored to meet the goals and objectives required for proficiency in patient care, including specialized areas of oncology treatment.

In addition to core rotations, the residency program includes several longitudinal experiences designed to further enhance the resident's professional development. These include a Medication Use Evaluation (MUE), a performance improvement project, and opportunities to present at grand rounds and participate in journal clubs. Residents will also gain valuable teaching experience by precepting APPE students and PGY1 residents.

Upon completion of the Hartford Hospital PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency, graduates will have the comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary to excel as independent oncology pharmacists or specialists. The program is dedicated to fostering the professional growth of its residents, preparing them to take on leadership roles in oncology pharmacy and to contribute meaningfully to patient care and the advancement of the field.

Residency Program Purpose

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas.
